About Us
Susan Smith attended the University of Wisconsin, has a
Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Elmhurst College, two Masters
Degrees in Counseling Psychology from Teacher’s College, Columbia University
and extensive postgraduate training in family therapy from the Westchester
Family Institute.
In addition to more than twenty years of high school and private guidance
work, she has tutored learning disabled students at Iona College, has been
on the staff of The Therapy Center in Bedford Hills, NY and has been a
presenter at the National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC)
workshops and numerous local ones. Her corporate clients include Sunburst
Communications, Human Relations Media and American Express. Susan has taught
elementary school, owned and directed a day care center, researched and
written for children’s television and produced an award-winning short film.
More currently, she has been volunteering at the High School for Arts,
Imagination and Inquiry on the Martin Luther King Campus in New York City,
setting up and reinforcing a college culture for inner-city students. She
has recently written a grant and received funding to bring computers to her
students for use in a guidance lab for college applications.
She is a member of the New York Association for College Admissions
Counseling, the New York State School Counselor Association, the American
Counseling Association and the Higher Education Counseling Association.
Susan holds permanent certifications in the State of New York. She has five
children and three grandchildren.
